There were not many options for graphics software for designers on the old school web - especially if the designer was not using a MAC. One of the first widely adopted software packages was Paint Shop Pro by Jasc. Although early versions were very simplistic by today's standards, Paint Shop Pro was the first introduction to graphic design for many old school web designers. Many such people had never done anything to produce graphics on a computer beyond Microsoft Paint, so being able to modify photos, create illustrations and more was pretty amazing!

Still offered today by Corel, Paint Shop Pro lost a lot of market share fairly quickly to Adobe Photoshop.
